TRANSFORMATION PROCESS

Removing the aluminum siding.

Fish scale shingles were revealed in the eaves under the aluminum siding.

Under the layer of aluminum siding, there was a layer of Insulbrick, or asphalt siding.

Under those years of layers were the original clapboard wood siding.


The entire house was covered in the Insulbrick and aluminum siding.


The entryway wall was removed to access the dining room and kitchen directly.


The wall separating the dining room and kitchen was removed to open up the space.

This staircase and door were removed to allow more space in the kitchen.

This basement access was covered.

By removing the dining room wall, there is a more spacious floor plan.

The fireplace in the living room was originally a double facing fireplace into the dining. This was exposed during the renovation.

Original transom windows were uncovered.

The original window placements were revealed.


This window was shifted to accommodate the salvaged built-in cabinet.

Unfortunately, there was significant termite damage to the floor joists on the first floor.


This space under the front staircase becomes the new access to the basement.

The new switchback staircase for the basement access.




New dining room and basement access from the entryway.

This fireplace was discovered in the living room. It was actually a double sided fireplace, through to the kitchen.











The plan is to extend the addition to the back of the house. There will be a bathroom on the second floor, with laundry and a porch below.

The original exterior wall with wood siding will remain as a feature in the bathroom.

The stone foundation was repointed at new basement access point.

Custom cabinetry will be used in the kitchen.

The windows have been restored to their original sizes.

The trim was removed, stripped and reinstalled. This time-consuming procedure paid off in the end.

This built-in cabinet was salvaged from a Cincinnati church rectory. It becomes a statement piece in the kitchen.
